About Stray cats

At Shawano County Humane Society, we’re part of a fellowship program with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s shelter veterinarians, leading experts in the field. Based on their guidance and extensive research, we have made the informed decision not to take in stray, feral, or barn cats unless they are sick, injured, or smaller than 3 pounds. If you see an unknown cat outside that doesn’t seem to be in danger, we advise you to leave it where it is instead of taking it to the shelter. We also advise against feeding stray cats unless they seem malnourished.
