DOGS IN TEMPORARY FOSTER

The Shawano County Humane Society partners with Sanger B. Powers Correctional Center through the Second Chance Paws Program, giving both dogs and handlers a fresh start. This program provides training and socialization for dogs, while also offering handlers the opportunity to learn and grow through their care and training. The handlers work with the dogs on obedience, manners, and confidence-building, preparing them for their forever homes. This partnership creates a win-win situation—giving dogs a second chance at adoption while helping handlers learn and grow through their care and training.

Couch Crasher means someone is generously fostering the animal temporarily but does not plan to keep it.

PURRS IN PROGRESS: GIVING SICK CATS A CHANCE TO HEAL

Shelter life is hard for any cat, but for those who are sick or extra stressed, it can feel unbearable. The noise, the unfamiliar faces—it makes healing that much harder. These cats didn’t ask to be sick, and they certainly don’t deserve to spend their days feeling unwell in a kennel. They just need a chance.

Studies show that cats recover much faster in a home environment, away from the constant stress of the shelter. Whether they need a few weeks to get back on their feet, or you want to make them a permanent member of your home, one thing is certain: they will heal faster in a home than in a cage. These cats just need some TLC, patience, and a peaceful place to recover. Foster families will be provided any supplies, medication, or food needed.
