How Long Does the Process Take?
At Shawano County Humane Society, we strive to make pet adoption as smooth and stress-free as possible. We’re here to help you every step of the way and encourage you to use us as a resource!

No upfront payment is required.

You have five days to determine if the pet is the right fit for your home and lifestyle.
-
If you decide to adopt, you’ll complete the standard adoption contract and pay the adoption fee at that time.

Our Adoption Process
At our shelter, we believe in making pet adoption quick and easy. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis and do not hold animals. Here’s how you can adopt a pet:
1. Be Prepared: Bring a collar/leash or kennel to transport your animal home. We do not send leashes home and charge $5 per cardboard Kennel for cats.
2. Visit Our Shelter: Come to our facility during open hours to meet our available animals in person.
3. Meet Your Potential Pet: Spend time with the animals to find your perfect match. Feel free to take them for a walk or go throw a ball in the Food Shed!
4. Same-Day Adoption: Once you’ve found your new companion, you can take them home the same day!
5. Simple Paperwork: Fill out a brief adoption form at the shelter. Adoption forms cannot be submitted online and MUST be submitted in-person at the shelter.
6. Adoption Fee: Pay the adoption fee (cash, card, or check accepted).
7. Take Your Pet Home: Leave with your new family member!
