Second Chance Paws Program:
The Second Chance Paws Program is a unique collaboration between the Shawano County Humane Society and the Sanger B. Powers Correctional Center. This program gives dogs desperately needed time away from the shelter, allowing them to decompress and enjoy a normal life outside of kennel confinement.
Inmates provide the dogs with lots of love, attention, and care, creating a nurturing environment where the dogs can be themselves and recover from abuse, neglect, and stress. While obedience training is part of the program, the main focus is on helping these animals find relief and comfort. The inmates, along with the staff, offer the dogs companionship and affection, making a significant difference in their well-being.
Through this partnership, the Second Chance Paws Program creates a healing space for the dogs, offering them the chance to experience a better quality of life while they await adoption. This initiative highlights the positive impact of compassion and care, benefiting both the animals and the inmates involved.
