Milo

Meet Milo!

Milo is a very friendly, loving, and intelligent dog who adjusted well in a foster home setting. He shows no signs of aggression and interacts positively with both adults and children. After a short adjustment period, he became somewhat protective of his room, but not in an aggressive way—he would simply stand up if someone approached the door. Milo is known at the center as a goofy and affectionate dog who is a joy to be around. Initially, he took a few minutes to settle into a new space, but he adapted quickly and became relaxed. He is kennel-trained, sleeping in his kennel at night and freely roaming the house during the day.

With other animals, Milo has shown no aggression. He is excited and playful around other dogs, often whining a little when he sees them outside, but does not bark from inside the home. He has not had exposure to cats, but the foster believes that with a proper introduction—especially if the cat is already in the house—he may adjust well.

Milo responds to several basic commands including “sit,” “down,” “shake paw,” and “stay.” He can also perform a “sit pretty” trick and understands directional cues like “fist forward” and “point to the ground.” He is house-trained and seems to learn new commands quickly, often picking them up in just a few days. The main training challenge identified is his recall—once off-leash, he is hard to get back, which has been the only instance where the foster raised their voice. Improving recall and teaching him to stay in one place would be beneficial.

He does pull on the leash and needs some work in that area. Despite this, Milo enjoys being outside and does well on the ground peg they have at the foster home. He does not require a large backyard, making him suitable for a variety of home environments. Milo was returned to the shelter primarily due to concerns over his weight (he is a bit underweight), but no behavioral issues were reported during the month-long foster period.

The foster also noted that they “child-proof” every dog they work with—tugging on ears, putting hands in the dog’s food, and giving regular baths—all of which Milo handled very well. He does not shed much, allows grooming, and overall, is described as a “great dog” with a loving and cuddly personality, suitable for a home where he will receive plenty of attention and continued training.
